Backpack Awareness Day
Backpack Day is a great opportunity to showcase occupational therapy services in your community. This year Occupational Therapy Department executed a one-day camping entitled “Backpack Awareness Day” on April 09th 2015.
The event took place at College of Applied Medical Sciences central lobby. The main objective of this campaign is to raise the awareness of the community, especially students, on how to carry the backpack properly to prevent musculoskeletal deformities which may accrue as a result carrying the backpack wrongly. Informative handouts were distributed to enrich their knowledge.
This activity is within the context of course OCTH 321 Promoting Occupational Performance for chronic conditions. The participants were from teaching staff, employees, as well as KSAU-HS students and also KSAU-HS visiting professor, Dr. Cynthia Robinson, Occupational Therapy Director from university of Oklahoma and they reflected positively on this event. They all committed to spread the message among their families and community to prevent the consequences of this problem on the wellbeing of the society.
