EMS Students in "Health Pulse" Campaign
Students of Emergency Medical services (EMS) recently participated in the University Campaign "Health Pulse" which was held in 5 malls ( Othaim Mall, Hayat Mall, AlQassr Mall, Panorama Mall, and Sahara Mall) in the period between 19th of March and 10th of April,2015
EMS students had their representation in the first aid corner which mainly dealt with two topics, namely Choking and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). In the area of 'Choking', the students demonstrated different types of chocking (complete or partial) and how to differentiate between them according to the signs and symptoms on the victims. Also, they illustrated in detail how to manage chocking according to its type and the age of the victim (infant, child, or adult).
On the second topic of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the students taught the public about the chain of survival from checking responsiveness and breathing, activating emergency response and getting an Automated Electrical Defibrillator (AED) to work, and starting early chest compressions. They taught them also how to perform chest compressions according to the victim's age (infant, child, or adult). During this campaign, the students made an hourly invitation to everyone to attend a scenario which was mainly a simulation with one of the manikins which was provided by EMS department on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Such a scenario based educational awareness received a good and positive feedback from the visitors.
As a conclusion, the campaign turned out to be an impressive success that was well received by the public. It has also boosted the demonstration skills of the students and their confidence levels in the dissemination of information.
