Cardiovascular Technology (CVTP)

College Curriculum

Study Plan and Curriculum Structure
The curriculum of the four programs offered by CAMS (i.e., Emergency Medical Services, Respiratory Program, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and Occupational Therapy) consists of two phases. The duration of the courses for each program is four years.

Phase I:Pre-Professional(Preparatory Four Semesters, which are offered to all health science colleges).
Students from all Health Science Colleges attend the first three semesters together. The students are offered intensive English language courses throughout these semesters to strengthen their English language. This will enable them to communicate fluently, as English is the instructional language while studying the professional courses.

More

Fundamental to the ongoing mission of the King Abdulaziz Medical City and King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences has been the Cardiovascular Technology Training Program, a post-Baccalaureate program. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worlwide. Coronary artery disease and its complications are rising due to epidemics of coronary risk factors in developed and developing countries. Cardiac centers with their invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular procedures and interventions are increasing parallel with this high disease burden.

To establish an accurate diagnosis and make appropriate therapeutic decisions both invasive (cath lab) and non-invasive (sonography) cardiac imaging is quickly becoming a vital standard of procedure in such cases.

Implementing the Cardiovascular Technologist Training Program, which is recognized as one of the allied health professions by various national medical associations worldwide, will help train and educate students intensively in the field of Echocardiography and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

During the second semester, students will branch off from the main core lectures and tutorials to make a conscience decision to either continue training in Echocardiography or pursue a career in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Mission

The Cardiovascular Technology Training Program will provide competency-based education that links professional and ethical concepts to clinical practice with a distinguished national and regional academic research reputation.

Program graduates will vastly improve the service our hospital currently offers, which is the only one of its kind here in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As a result, graduates will improve community health services throughout the Kingdom.

Vision

The vision of the Cardiovascular Technology Program (CVTP) at CAMS is to attain a high-standardized level of trained technologists in the field of cardiac investigations. This will eventually lead to national and international recognition of the CVTP as a center of excellance for training and education in the field of Echocardiography and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Technology.

Values

  • Prepare and educate students as skilled, competent Echocardiography Technologists / Cardiovascular Cath-Lab Technologists.
  • Provide optimal educational standards and a high-quality, structured training schedule in partnership with global accreditation programs.
  • On completing the program, students will be educated in the field of echocardiography or catheterization in both theoretical and clinical application.
  • Provide organized and professional training regime in an ever-demanding career opportunity.
  • Enhance the basic sciences and clinical research in managing cardiovascular disease.
  • Preserve human life and endevour to detect coronary disease before it manifests into later stage illness.
